PHNOM PENH: The new President of United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Cambodia Ms. Alissar Chaker has expressed her pleasure to work with the Royal Government of Cambodia and to continue to support the Royal Government in its humanitarian demining efforts to end the threat towards the end of 2025.

This announcement was made by the President of UNDP on Wednesday morning when she has paid a courtesy call to the Senior Minister and First Vice President of the Mines Authority Ly Thuch, and the two leaders have discussed cooperation of mine action in Cambodia at senior minister’s office.

The Senior Minister, on behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, has expressed its gratitude to UNDP for its support for development work in Cambodia, including its involvement in humanitarian mine action since 2006 through the Mine Action Project. This is the implementation of the fourth phase of the project.

The senior minister has pointed out that from 2006 to September 2021, the project involved clearing 275 square kilometers of land to be used for cultivation and housing by the affected communities, as well as finding and destroying landmines. 71,849 anti-personnel missions, 1,515 anti-tank mines, 214,542 explosive remnants of war and benefited 1,078,022 rural people.

The Senior Minister has requested Ms. Alissar Chaker to continue to mobilize additional resources from donor communities and development partners to join the Royal Government of Cambodia in improving the livelihoods of local people, saving lives and providing safe land through Participation in humanitarian demining in Cambodia.
